Cosmetic Treatments in Wiltshire and Gloucestershire
Absolute Contraindications
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE SHOULD CLIENTS WHO HAVE
ANY OF THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS BE TREATED
- Pregnancy or breast feeding
- Heart Pacemakers
- Collagen Vascular Diseases (eg: SLE/Lupus, PAN, Rheumatoid Arthritis)
- Angina/Heart Disease
- Bleeding or clotting disorders
- Diabetes
- Known Photosensitivity (eg; porphyria or Xeroderma) or Allergy
- Skin conditions: (eg: Dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, inflammatory rosacea, dermographism)
- Skin Lesions (eg: moles, tattoos, cuts or grazes etc)
- Epilepsy
- Cancer – ANY FORM, ANY TIME
- Kidney Disease
- Keloid
- Vitiligo
- Melasma (Chloasma)
- Herpes or predisposition to herpes (“Cold Sores”)
- Certain Medications (seek advice from Medical Cosmetic Service)
- HIV or AIDS
- Recent surgery (minimum 6 months after)
- Persons who have Skin Type V & VI (IPL) / VI (Nd:YAG/Pixel)
- Persons under the age of 18 years
RELATIVE CONTRAINDICATIONS
These conditions should raise doubt in the therapists mind and should be explored prior to treatment. It may be necessary to seek medical advice regarding the suitability for treatment prior to treating.

| Medications causing photosensitivity | Consult Medical Cosmetic Service if in doubt. |
| Skin infections | Avoid these areas when treating. (Advise medical attention). |
| Tanned skin | Await disappearance of tan before treating (no sunbed/tan for 4 weeks prior to treatment. NB: includes ‘self tan’ and ‘fake tan’ preparations. |
| Skin type V, (V-Nd: YAG ONLY) | Patch test and wait minimum of 3 weeks |
| Hormone treatments (eg; thyroid) | Results may be unsatisfactory (seek medical advice) |
